In a world where everything is done through the internet, it is paramount that we protect our personal information safe from the vast amount of people who would do harm with the data available.
There is a saying; “what goes on the internet, stays on the internet”, and with that in mind, it is of great importance that we take measures to ensure our security. Keep in mind that our procedure works for gaming routers as well as business routers.
This, of course, includes the little things, and the best place to start is at home. Small things come a long way, even if its as small as a password change – though to many, that may not be such a small thing at all.
Now, you may wish to reset your router password for any number of reasons. If you just recently got a new wi-fi network, you may just want to change the password to make it easier to remember or maybe you just feel unsafe with the way things are as they stand.
And that is why we’ve made this easy 2-step article, in order to help people secure their internet access in the smallest way possible. Now, let’s get started.
How to Reset your Router Password Now?
So, you want to change your router password, easier than most people may think, but still, quite confusing to those with little to no knowledge when it comes to basic tech.
This isn’t a problem though, just follow these steps and you’ll have your router password changed in no time.
Do keep in mind that this process is for changing your admin password, that you use to access your router, not the wi-fi password. You’ll be able to change your admin’s user name as a direct consequence as well – only if you want to of course.
The first step you have to take is logging in to your router. Your router keeps all the information related to your wi-fi network and enables you to change your settings. So, fire up your computer, open your browser of choice, access your router.
Just enter your username and password, and you’ll be done with the first step.
If you didn’t already know how to log in to your router, here’s the best guide to get you there. A lot of people tend to have problems with just accessing their router, and it can get complicated. And that is exactly why we’ve dedicated an entire easy to understand article just for that very reason!
Essentially you just have to type in your IP address on the URL of your browser. There you’ll be met with a page asking you for your username and password. Type all the necessary information in and you’ll be logged into your router.
Once you’ve accessed your router, you’ll be taken to the main page. On the left-hand side, you should see a bunch of different options you can go through. Look for ‘System tools’ and click on it.
You should now be able to see ‘Password’ under the heading of ‘System tools’, click on it.
‘System tools’ > ‘Password’
In this portion, all that’s left to do is to change your router’s password with whatever works well for you.
After you’ve changed your settings, make sure to save it and an authentication warning will pop up. Just type in the needed information (being your new password and/or username) and you’re done! Congrats, you’ve successfully changed your router password.
We hope this article was helpful. But if you’re still having troubles with changing your password, contact your local network provider for help. Stay safe!
